Hi! My name is Isabella DeRose, and I am a senior at the University of Michigan majoring in Biology, Health, and Society with a minor in Sociology of Health and Medicine. Planning to attend medical school after graduation, I hope to utilize my background in bioethics, medical anthropology, and the social dimensions of healthcare to advocate for my future patients and promote more empathetic, culturally informed care.
Currently, under the mentorship of Dr. Stephanie Boas, I contribute to research investigating the genetic and cellular mechanisms of resilience and susceptibility in Huntington’s Disease using a genetically diverse BXD mouse model. Our work aims to understand how genetic variation influences disease progression by identifying modifiers of Huntington’s phenotypes through quantitative trait loci mapping.
Outside of research, I enjoy staying active, spending time with family and friends, and experimenting with new recipes. I also hope to become a certified fitness instructor in my free time!
